Native Landscaping
At PlantWise, our landscaping philosophy is cooperative and suggestive rather than dogmatic.
Our hope is to meld our client’s aesthetic, ecological, and edible desires with the assets of the site in a way that produces a landscape that is easy to maintain, enjoyable for the owner, and produces as much environmental benefit as possible. We excel at using native plants to create wildlife habitat, maximizing the amount of food a backyard can produce, and solving water problems in a manner that protects property and the downstream environment.

Washtenaw County Water Resources Commission Rain Garden
Rain gardens are designed to capture, treat, and manage stormwater runoff in a way that mimics the natural water cycle. They can be used in urban, suburban, and rural areas to help reduce flooding, erosion, and water pollution, as well as to improve the local environment and increase community resilience.
Rain gardens are small, shallow depressions that are planted with native wildflowers and greasses that are adapted to local conditions. Our rain gardens are planted with native species that thrive in both fully saturated and dry conditions and they tend to be deeply rooted, increasing their water absorption potential. These gardens are designed to capture and infiltrate stormwater runoff from rooftops, driveways and other paved surfaces, as well as to filter and clean the water before it enters local water bodies.
Rain gardens can be integrated into the built environment in a way that is both functional and attractive, and provide multiple benefits for communities, including improved air and water quality, increased wildlife habitat, and increased property values.
What Our Customers are saying
Testimonials
“PlantWise and I are completing our second year of creating a large prairie and series of rain gardens in my backyard. Cayla developed designs, solicited my thoughts, and paid attention to my ideas and feedback. Working with her and her very knowledgeable crew was a pleasure. Most importantly, the results are spectacular–a succession of blooms for visual interest and a continuous parade of insects, birds, butterflies, and pollinators.”
